VIDEO: A New Year’s Resolution for My Lymphedema

As the clock strikes midnight this New Year’s Eve, it will mark the beginning of my 20th year of living, coping and, yes, thriving with lymphedema!  In this video, I share the resolution that will help me not just to survive, but to THRIVE, with lymphedema.

Happy New Year to all my fellow lymphies!

Happy New Year!

  1. Hi Britta. Nice to hear of your mission in 2018 to try new things which may help, please keep us posted and good luck! I was wondering if you have any experience using air compression leg massager machines? There appears to be evidence supporting their use with lower limb swelling and I have been thinking of trying one. Thanks.

    1. Hi Jill, thank you for sharing your comment and the link to the compression machines! I have a Flexitouch from Tactile Medical and love it. My insurance paid for most, but not all, of the system. The Tactile Medical rep was very sweet and came to my home to measure me for the unit. It’s like having a massage therapist at home.

In fact, just yesterday, I had a really bad time with my lymphedema from wearing compression stockings that were worn out. But when I came home and put on the Flexitouch, it reversed the damage from the day. I highly recommend it for a tool to promote and maintain lymphatic flow.

I can’t speak to the other machines in the link you provided. The Flexitouch came recommended to me by my lymphedema therapist, and I have also seen online that other lymphies have had good experiences with them. Getting a good fit is critical, so make sure your rep seems on the ball.

P.S. This week I posted a video about the first new thing that I tried this year – dry brushing – check it out!
